Mini Me Protective Styles!!

Ok ladies, I know what you are thinking. What in the world is a "mini me" protective style? Well I'll tell you. It's a protective style for the small natural girls that want to look just like you. It could be your daughter, your niece, your cousin, little sister or anyone that you can practice on for that matter. One thing that I feel is important for us to do as naturals, is to share this gift of knowledge with our younger generation and let them know how important it is to be comfortable in their own skin. Their natural skin. So, now that I've gotten that out of the way, I will be sharing a few pictures of my beautiful mini me's, as well as other mini natural beauties. I hope you enjoy!

Fall Protective Styling!!

Autumn is here and this is one of my favorite times of the year. The holidays are rolling around, all of the stores are putting up decorations and lets not even talk about the sweet aromas you get while walking down the candle aisles in the stores. But I digress. With all that will be going on in the Fall and Winter months, there is a possibility that you may not focus on your hair as much. But the truth is, you don't have to if you follow one simple step.... Protective Style! Using a protective style allows you to well, protect your hair from breakage and the harsh weather that the upcoming months can bring. Here in my hometown Chicago, the Fall and Winter are extremely harsh and so moisturizing and protective styling are a must if you want to prevent breakage and drying. So my lovely naturals, here are a few examples of some protective styles. I hope you enjoy!!

To Chop or Not to Chop

The big question for many new comers to the natural hair world is whether or not a big chop is needed. Well there are no right or wrong answers to this question. Some choose to big chop because they want to start over from scratch so to speak. While others will transition by cutting the relaxed hair off little by little. This is the route that I chose to go. I continuously cut my relaxed hair off a little at a time until now, after seven months of no relaxer, I have no more relaxed hair in my head. That was a great accomplishment for me. I was so terrified to cut all of my hair off at once, because I thought that my hair grew slow. Boy was I wrong. Every time I cut my hair it seems like it grows back faster and faster. I now know that I could have done the big chop with no problem. A few friends of mine as well as some beautiful women that I subscribe to on Youtube, such as MsVCharles did the big chop and they look absolutely amazing. And to top that off their hair is down their back! Remember no matter what you choose the key to having beautiful, natural hair is to keep it moisturized and healthy.

This is my small puff when I first started in March. As you can see I still have relaxed hair at the tips.

This is my puff now. This picture was taken a week ago. No more relaxed ends!!!! And a noticeably bigger puff!
